Newmarket Training Grounds

The core business of Jockey Club Estates remains the Training Grounds on Newmarket Heath. The Training Grounds include an array of facilities for training Thoroughbreds, both on turf and artificial surfaces, unequalled anywhere in the world. Comprising 2,500 acres, the training grounds include 50 miles of turf gallops as well as around 14 miles of artificial tracks and are used on a daily basis by up to 2,500 horses in the care of over 70 trainers.

Whilst steeped in history and tradition, Jockey Club Estates aim to keep the facilities at the forefront of racehorse training technology. The quality and variety of modern all weather track surfaces means that there is a regular demand to upgrade and improve the gallops in order to maintain Newmarket’s status as the international centre of excellence for training Thoroughbreds. Over the last twelve months Jockey Club Estates has invested over £1.5m on projects on the Newmarket training grounds.

2007 was a vintage year for Newmarket trained horses as the town was responsible for the winners of 1,557 races (compared to 1480 in 2006), including four of the five British Classic races.
