The opening times for the gallops at Lambourn fluctuate throughout the year. The Operations Manager at Lambourn tries to take into account the needs of trainers who use the gallops regularly when deciding which gallops are opened and closed seasonally.  At the start of each gallop there is a large display board which indicates the opening and closing times for that specific gallop as well as the closure times for maintenance. Trainers and visitors are advised to take note of what is on the display boards regularly as times may change on any day and must be adhered to at all times. Along with the main training grounds there are also other schooling facilities available to the trainers using Jockey Club Estates' facilities. These can be seen below:

• The principal schooling ground consists of a 1.5f all weather strip, with three intermediate chase fences and three French hurdles.
• On the remainder of the ground the following are available:

- 10 fences
- 2 open ditches
- 3 French hurdles
- 4 flights of hurdles
- 3 flights of ‘baby’ hurdles

Starting stalls are a set of 3 bay racecourse standard ‘Steriline’ starting stalls, situated on a one furlong strip of Eurotrack.    

When it is not possible to use the main schooling ground, an area of training ground adjacent to Saxon House Stables is leased privately by Jockey Club Estates to which schooling facilities are transferred. This area is open from the spring (April/May) to the autumn (October/November) and the facilities transferred there are:

-  3 chase fences.
- 3 full sized hurdles.
- 3 intemediate hurdles.
- A selection of ‘baby tyres’ and birch ‘bundles’.

Training ground charges are divided into a monthly fee for full time trainers and one-off fees for casual trainers; these fees are paid directly to the Jockey Club Estates office in Newmarket (please see contact points). The rules surrounding the payment of gallop fees are rigorously enforced – please see the Rules and Regulations, clause 11, for further information.

Gallop Fee    £107.32 (£128.78 inc VAT) per horse per month. 

Single Gallop Fee  £29.17 (£35.00 inc VAT) per horse per gallop.

Gallops, turf or artificial, tend to be longer tracks where serious work is done.
Horses can canter and gallop on a Canter, however, horses are prohibited from cantering on a Gallop.

The National Fences, which are replicas of those used in the Grand National are open 6-8 weeks before the Grand National is run. The fences are closed one week after the Grand National has taken place.
